Celebrating One Year of Sky House
We're thrilled to share that we've reached a very special milestone: our first anniversary. To celebrate a full year of permanent supportive living in West Davis, we opened our doors on June 24, 2026 for an open house, welcoming our residents, their families, and the social workers who have been part of our community from the very beginning.
It was an afternoon full of warmth and connection. We enjoyed games throughout the day, including a scavenger hunt that doubled as a self-guided tour of our home and a succulent-planting activity where everyone took home their own mini succulent pot. More than anything, the gathering was a chance for us to look back on everything this first year has held, and to celebrate the community we've built together.
Where we began
We opened our doors in July 2025 with a simple but deeply held belief: that supportive living should come with dignity and pride. Our founder, Kristin Sky, LCSW, spent more than a decade working as a mental-health therapist and medical social worker, and along the way she saw too many adults living with low incomes and disabilities end up in housing that no one should have to call home. We knew it could be done differently — and Sky House is our answer.
Our eight-bed home was designed to be exactly that: a home. Not a facility, not a waystation, but a place where our residents are known, supported, and celebrated. Over the past year, that vision has come to life in ways big and small.
A year of community
What has made this first year so meaningful isn't any single event — it's the rhythm of daily life we've created together. We celebrate birthdays. We share pizza and game nights. When someone new moves in, community members step up to donate toiletries or bring their pets by for a visit. It's the kind of joyous, harmonious living environment we set out to build from the start.
That sense of belonging is at the heart of who we are. What we hear most from our residents is that the best part of living here is the almost instantaneous sense of community — being surrounded by people who have faced similar challenges and who can meet you exactly where you are. For those who have navigated mental-health struggles, stepping back into everyday life can feel daunting. Having a supportive group nearby makes all the difference.
Beyond the day-to-day, we stay active and connected. Many of us take the bus together to community meals and go on walks around the neighborhood. Drawing on our case-management background, we help link our residents to the things that keep life steady — transportation, doctor's appointments, food delivery — depending on what each person needs.
Looking ahead
As we begin our second year, we're excited to expand our services and reach more people across Yolo County through our case-management support. Our goal remains the same as it was on day one: to be a place where people can find stability, community, and a genuine sense of home — whether we're a stop along the way or a place to stay for good.
